My main foci at this point in my teaching career is ameliorating communication and intercultural awareness within and between my students. I think that if students have a better understanding of one another, they can develop a stronger sense of themselves as a whole.
I created a lesson for grade 3 surrounding the book Have you filled a bucket today? by Carol McCloud in order to strengthen the classroom community. We read the story as a class and afterwards, each student complimented 3 other students and each student was complimented 3 times. The smiles on their faces were all I needed to see that the lesson was successful.
