Values and Goals

I believe strongly in place based and personal learning. I strive to use all I can from the local area to teach and inspire my students. My idea of personal learning is that students may or may not learn my learning intention for the day but they will have learned something relevant and important to them at that time.

A great example of what I mean here is with the final project I had the grade 4/5’s at Harwin complete. Students worked in groups to create a 3D representation of their learning from a unit surrounding the Lheidli T’enneh of Prince George. The Lheidli T’enneh culture is a product of the place and lands around Prince George — place based. Students shared ideas, collaborated, and cooperated within their groups to create their final product and took turns explaining what they had made and why they had made it — personal learning.
